Andrea Piccioni is considered one of the greatest virtuosos on the frame drum. He studied with great teachers from Italy, Europe, Persia, Turkey, India and America. During this time he acquired his extraordinary ability to move in different musical genres and styles, and in doing so to develop the language of the tamburello and various other frame drums in his own unique way - masterfully and expressively.
He regularly teaches workshops and master classes at renowned festivals such as: Nafda (USA), Big Bang Festival (Dublin, Ireland), International Percussion Festival Freistadt (Freistadt, Austria), Tamburi Iran (Isfahan, Iran), Percpan 2009 (Brazil) and always comes as a teacher to the world's most important frame drum festival, Tamburi Mundi in Freiburg (Germany).
Andrea Piccioni is President of the Frame Drums Italia association and was its artistic director at the annual frame drum festival in the Marche region of Italy (FDI International Frame Drums Festival). In the university year 2008/2009 he taught a course on frame drums and Mediterranean percussion at the "Arrigo Pedrollo" Conservatory in Vicenza (Italy).
Musically he worked with the following artists among others: World: BOBBY MCFERRIN, NIDI D'ARAC, UNAVANTALUNA, INDACO, MANFRED LEUCHTER, LUCILLA GALEAZZI, MILAGRO ACUSTICO, TAMBURO MUNDI (GE), GLEN VELEZ & LORI COTLER (USA) Jazz: ANTONIO CALOGERO, ENSEMBLE FISFUZ (GE/TURK), PAUL MCCANDLESS (USA), CAMERA ENSEMBLE Early Music: ENSEMBLE ENCHIRIADIS, FREIBURGER SPIELLEYT (GE), ORLANDO DI LASSO ENSEMBLE (GE), LES HAULZ ET LES BAS (GE) In 2008 he participated in the theater production "Edipo e la Pizia" by director Lucia Poli, with Lucia Poli and Giorgio Rossi.
Since 2014 he is part of the renowned AGHA KHAN MUSIC INSTITUTE, with which he realizes musical projects worldwide and collaborates with world-famous soloists and ensembles.
He is the author of the first textbook for Italian tamburello, "Il Tamburello Italiano", published in 2006 by the magazine Ritmi (formerly Percussioni). In 2009 he published, also under the title "Il Tamburello Italiano", the first teaching DVD entirely dedicated to tamburello. In collaboration with the German instrument makers Anklang Musikwelt he developed two Tamburello Signature models.
In addition, he works as an "endorsing artist" with the US company Cooperman Drums: Together they recently realized an innovative Tamburello and a Tammorra, both with synthetic skin.
